Newbury Tops Bay Path 65-57 in NECC Women's Basketball

HOLYOKE, Mass. – The duo of junior Destiny Spears (Arnold, Md.) and sophomore Savannah Olsen(Battle Creek, Mich.) combined to score 48 points and grab 30 rebounds as Newbury College captured a 65-57 victory over Bay Path University in a New England Collegiate Conference women's basketball gameWednesday evening on Pink Out Night in the Bartley Center.


Spears collected a game-high 27 points, while Olsen chipped in 21 for the victorious Nighthawks (7-15 overall, 7-8 NECC).  Both players grabbed 15 rebounds, while Spears added a game-best seven assists, and Olsen registered a game-high four blocked shots.


Three players scored in double figures for Bay Path (2-18, 1-14), led by senior Brenna Roy (Stafford Springs, Conn.), who poured in 18 points.  Senior Dallas Jackson (Springfield, Mass.) picked up another double-double, as she posted 13 points and 12 rebounds to go with six assists and four steals. Senior Aliyah Gordon (Springfield, Mass.) added 11 points for the Wildcats. 


Newbury outshot Bay Path 37.1% (26-for-60) to 29.2% (19-for-65), while the Wildcats won the battle of the boards, 50-48.
