Wheelock defeats Bay Path in NCAA Lax action 15-3

Wheelock College defeats Bay Path in NECC lacrosse action.

BOSTON, Mass.- The Wheelock College women's lacrosse team rode a flurry of first half goals to a 15-3 rout of visiting Bay Path University in New England Collegiate Conference play. Wheelock improves to 5-3 (2-0 NECC) while Bay Path falls to 0-4 (0-2 NECC).  

Seven different Wheelock players scored in the first half as the home team opened the contest with five consecutive goals. Sophomore Katie Frade (Dartmouth, Mass.) opened the scoring a little over a minute in while rookie Georgia Schindele (Sparkill, N.Y.) capped the spurt with 24:22 to go in the period. After Bay Path got on the board, Wheelock reeled off another six straight goals to pull away for good including two each from junior Violet Vig (Glastonbury, Conn.) and sophomore Alexandra Clark (Oak Bluffs, Mass.). Wheelock headed into the break ahead 11-2.  

In the second half, sophomore Molly Brennan (Walpole, N.H.) scored the first of three consecutive goals for Wheelock to open the period. Bay Path sophomore Elena Helming (Maplewood, N.J.) got one back for the visitors with 5:07 to play but Wheelock freshman Colleen Macdonald (Sandwich, Mass.) closed the scoring with 1:50 on the clock to give the home team the 15-3 victory.  

Seven Wheelock athletes netted multiple points led by Macdonald who scored a game-high four goals and added an assist while Schindele chipped in two scores and three assists. Vig tied for a game-high five ground balls and contributed two goals. 

Bay Path was led by Helming who scored a pair of goals while sharing game-high honors with five ground balls. Junior Brenna Roy (Stafford Springs, Conn.) rounded out the scoring for the visitors.

Wheelock sophomore Carina Lawrence (Andover, Mass.) earned the win between the pipes while making two stops. Bay Path's rookie goalie Milan Lytle (Washington, D.C.) took the loss despite making three stops.

 Wheelock returns to action on Tuesday April 5th when they travel to Becker for an NECC matchup at 4:00 p.m. Bay Path hosts Elms on Tuesday April 5th with a 4:00 p.m. start.
