Wildcats Fall 18-8 to Mountaineers in NECC Women’s Lacrosse Match

LONGMEADOW, Mass. – Despite playing down most of the game, the Wildcats of Bay Path still managed to score eight points in an 18-8 loss to New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) opponent the Southern Vermont Mountaineers. Junior Mel Orrell (Gloucester, Mass.) led all players with seven goals and one assist for the game, while Bay Path was topped by sophomore Elena Helming (Maplewood, N.J.) with four goals.

Juniors Emily Lesure (Chesire, Mass.) tallied five goals and Lauren Nesshoever (Chittenden, Vt.) added three goals.

The score was 11-4 at the half with the Wildcats coming on strong out of the break answering each goal scored by the Mountaineers early in the half.  Freshman Hailee Walker (Cohoes, N.Y.) scored first at 29:36 of the second half pushing Southern Vermont to 12, while Helmig answered the call less than a minute later taking it down the field off a draw.  Orell added the 13th goal for the Mountaineers with an assist from freshman Aubrey Vierstra (Saugerties, N.Y.).

Senior Taylor Wood (Castleton, N.Y.) scored off a free position shot.

Bay Path once again went down a player due to injury and was unable to stop a scoring frenzy by the Mountaineers.

The Wildcats had a final push in the last ten minutes of play scoring the last two goals of the match. Junior Brenna Roy (Stafford Springs, Conn.) scored at 9:48 on the clock and Helmig netted the final goal at 7:05 left. Roy finished with two goals and one assist.

Walker had two goals and two assists. Sophomore Natalie Rose Canterbury (New Hartford, Conn.) rounded out the scoring with one goal and one assist.
