Regis Tops Bay Path in NECC Field Hockey

LONGMEADOW, MASS.  –  Freshman Devan Wirtanen (Westminster, Mass.) helped lift the Regis College Pride to a 4-0 victory over the Bay Path College Wildcats in a New England Collegiate Conference field hockey match Friday afternoon at Ryan Field scoring two goals.

The Pride opened the scoring just two minutes and 45 seconds into the contest as junior Christine O'Toole(Boston, Mass.) knocked in her third goal of the season off an assist from freshman Becka Sarson (York, Maine) that put Regis ahead 1-0.

Wirtanen extended the Regis lead to 2-0 at the 14:38 mark, thanks to assists from sophomores Sashae Walls (Everett, Mass.) and Shelby Looney (Leicester, Mass.)

Wirtanen followed with her second marker of the match following a feed from sophomore Cheyenne Genga (South Windsor, Conn.) that extended the Pride's lead to 3-0 at 19:36 of the first half.

Genga fed Walls again for the only goal of the second half, as Walls found the back of the net just 48 seconds into the final period. Wirtanen concluded the game as the Pride's leading scorer this season, with four goals.

Freshman goalkeeper Anna Meyer (Millbrook, N.Y.) recorded a game-nine seven saves for Bay Path, while freshman Raegan Heck (Phillipston, Mass.) logged five saves for Regis.

Winners of two straight games, Regis improved to 2-10 overall and 2-1 in the NECC, while Bay Path dropped to 0-9 overall and 0-3 in NECC play.

The Wildcats will return to action Wednesday, October 17 at NECC rival Anna Maria at 4:00 p.m., while Regis will host Rivier in a non-conference contest on Tuesday, October 16 at 6:00 p.m.
