MCLA Takes a Pair From The Wildcats

Game 1: 

Even though Bay Path University Wildcats collected seven hits to MCLA's six, they still fell 4-2 on Wednesday at Bay Path University.

Bay Path University were the first to get on the board in the second inning when Madison Sunderland homered to center field, scoring two runs. It was her 1st career home run.  Kristie Zator doubled, which helped MCLA tie the game at two in the bottom of the second.

MCLA captured the lead, 4-2, in the bottom of the third after Bay Path University Wildcats committed an error, and Maggie Closinski singled, each scoring one run.

Sarah Williams earned the win for MCLA. They gave up seven hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out three and walking four.

Sunderland took the loss for Bay Path Wildcats. The starting pitcher went six innings, surrendering four runs (three earned) on six hits, striking out four and walking one.

Sunderland led Bay Path University with two runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. The pitcher went 1-for-3 on the day. Bay Path University Wildcats had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating four walks for the game.

Isabella Ferrara had two hits for the Wildcats..

Closinski and Lora Woyton were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for MCLA while hitting back-to-back.

Zator led MCLA with two runs batted in. They went 1-for-3 on the day. MCLA were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Ella Staffier had the most chances in the field with six.

 

Game 2: 

Bay Path University Wildcats's effort to come back from down seven runs in the fifth inning came up just short, as they fell 11-10 to MCLA on Wednesday at Bay Path University. Bay Path closed the gap by scoring on a single, a walk, a hit by pitch, and a walk.

Despite the loss, Bay Path University Wildcats did collect 10 hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, MCLA had 14 hits on the way to victory.

MCLA got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Lora Woyton doubled, scoring one run, Maddy Teta singled, scoring two runs, and Madyson Torres singled, scoring one run.

MCLA added one run in the second after Woyton hit a sacrifice fly. MCLA added one run in the third. Torres singled on the seventh pitch of the at-bat, making the score 6-2.

Bay Path University Wildcats scored five runs on three hits in the top of the sixth inning. Ansley Morrison singled, scoring two runs, Caroline Austin drew a walk, scoring one run, and Carissa Church was struck by a pitch, driving in a run.

Isabella Ferrara stepped in the circle first for Bay Path University Wildcats. The righty gave up seven hits and six runs over three innings, striking out one and walking three. Woyton started in the circle for MCLA. The righty surrendered six hits and four runs over five innings, striking out two and walking three.

Austin provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Bay Path University Wildcats with three runs batted in. The second baseman went 1-for-3 on the day. Madison Tessmer and Taylor Suffoletto each collected two hits for Bay Path University Wildcats. Emma Scheeren paced Bay Path University Wildcats with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying eight walks for the game.

Bay Path University Wildcats were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Tessmer made the most plays with five.

MCLA piled up 14 hits in the game. Number eight hitter, Torres, showed the depth of MCLA's lineup, by leading them with three hits in four at bats. Teta, Hailey Peabody, Woyton, and Torres each drove in two runs for MCLA.

Ella Staffier and Justina Pardi each collected multiple hits for MCLA. MCLA had patience at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game.

 

Bay Path University Wildcats will travel to Dean College for their next game on Thursday, April 4, 2024.
