Immediate Release:

Lyndonville, VT - Bay Path University took advantage of several Vermont State University Lyndon defensive miscues and went on to sweep both ends of Sunday's non-conference softball doubleheader.  With the wins, the Wildcats improved to 10-11 on the season, while the Hornets fell to 4-9.

Game 1 - Bay Path 8, VTSU Lyndon 1

Bay Path loaded the bases in the top of the first inning on a pair of Hornet errors and a bunt single.  With two outs, the Hornets misplayed Grace Ramsey's fly ball, clearing the bases for three unearned runs.

The Panthers tacked on two more runs in the top of the third inning.  Caroline Austin walked leading off, moved to second on a wild pitch, and scored on Madison Sunderland's base hit.  Sunderland moved to third on a passed ball, then came home when Emma Scheeren beat out an infield hit.

The Hornets got on the scoreboard in the home half of the fourth inning.  Claudia Knapp (Howell, NJ) singled with two outs.  Seairra Anderson (Somersworth, NH) followed with a double to deep right field, scoring Knapp and cutting the Bay Path lead to 5-1.

Bay Path added more insurance in the top of the seventh inning.  Sunderland got things started with a leadoff walk.  She moved to second on Brooke Evanchak's ground out, then to third when Scheeren beat out an infield hit.  Ansley Morrison followed with another infield hit, plating Sutherland.  Back to back wild pitches allowed Scheeren to score, then an RBI single from Madisyn Vera accounted for the final margin.

Isabella Ferrara went the distance in the circle for Bay Path, earning the victory.  She scattered seven hits and struck out six while only walking one batter.  Victoria Valentine (East Burke, VT) took the loss for Lyndon, allowing four earned runs while striking out three and walking seven.

Game 2 - Bay Path 10, VTSU Lyndon 2

Bay Path again capitalized on a pair of Lyndon errors to take the lead in the top of the first inning.  Scheeren led off with an infield hit, then stole second.  She moved to third on Vera's ground out, then scored when Lyndon misplayed Taylor Suffoletto's fly ball.

Scheeren led off the top of the third inning with a base hit and stole second.  She then scored on Suffoletto's two-out base hit, making it 2-0, Bay Path.

The Panthers made it 3-0 in the top of the fourth inning.  Austin singled leading off, then scored on Evanchak's two-out double.

Lyndon climbed back to within one run in their half of the fourth inning.  Bailey Quire (Gainesville, FL) walked leading off, then Riann Fortin (Newport, VT) hit into a fielder's choice that was misplayed by Bay Path.  Saleena Porter (St. Johnsbury, VT) beat out an infield hit and Quire came home on a bad throw on the play.  Knapp's sacrifice fly drove in Fortin with the second Hornet run.

Bay Path answered with three runs in the top of the fifth inning.  Infield hits from Scheeren, Morrison, and Suffoletto loaded the bases.  Austin's sacrifice fly scored Scheeren, then Ramsey's two-run single extended the Panther lead to 6-2.

Bay Path broke the game completely open in the top of the sixth inning when they tacked on four more unearned runs, thanks to three Lyndon errors.
