Hawks Soar Past Wildcats 5-4 in NECC Women’s Tennis Action

LONGMEADOW, Mass.-Senior Julia Bendzin (Poestenkill, N.Y.) remains undefeated on the season at the #1 position 4-0 defeating sophomore Megan Nessen (Levittown, Penn.) 6-2, 6-3. Despite Bay Path taking two doubles early in the match the Becker College Hawks came back to win four singles overtaking the 2009 NECC preseason favorites the Wildcats of Bay Path 5-4 in conference action today.

Becker took the #2, #3, #5 and #6 positions with sophomore Laura Mimms (Ashland, Mass.), junior Danielle Stryker (Ledyard, Conn.), sophomore Jessica Burdick (Clinton, Mass.) and senior Sarah Ryzewski (Spencer, Mass.) notching the wins for the Hawks.

Bay Path's junior #4 player Carolina Ynguanzo (Springfield, Mass.) won her sets 6-2, 6-1 over Beckers' sophomore Shauna McNally (Shrewsbury, Mass.).

In doubles action, the tandem of Bendzin and senior Kara Fox (Biddeford, Maine)won their match after a tie-break 9-8 (7-4) at the #1 position defeating Nessen and Mimms.  Becker took the #2 doubles flight with the duo of Stryker and McNally winning 8-2 over senior Cristina Ruiz (Waterbury, Conn.) and sophomore Sarah Costa (Tiverton, R.I.).

Ynguanzo and her partner sophomore Lianna Loveitt (Gorham, Maine) proved victorious at the # 3 doubles flight 8-2.

Bay Path is now 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the NECC, while Becker advances to 3-4 and 1-0 in conference play. The Wildcats are back in action tomorrow travelling to play Albertus Magnus for a 1:00 p.m. start-time, while Becker will host NECC opponent Lesley on Tuesday, September 22^nd at 4:00 p.m.
