Newbury Bolts By Bay Path, 3-0

HOLYOKE, Mass. – Newbury sophomore outside hitter Tricia Corriveau (Coventry, RI) knocked down a match-high 11 kills and senior setter Sarah Nelson (Bernardston, MA) handed out a team-high 14 assists to lead the visiting Nighthawks to a 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-13) win over Bay Path College in Saturday afternoon’s New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women’s volleyball match at the Bartley Center on the campus of Holyoke Community College.

Newbury (10-18, 4-1 NECC) won its third straight match and remained in second place behind Daniel Webster in the NECC standings heading into the final week of regular season play. Bay Path, meanwhile, lost its fifth straight to fall to 1-18, 1-5 NECC.

Freshman outside hitter Sara Hanna (Center Moriches, NY) and freshman middle blocker Stephanie Williams (Medford, MA) added six kills apiece and combined for eight digs for Newbury, which hit .183 for the match, including .286 (13-5-28) in the third set.

Bay Path was led by a solid, team-high 10-kill effort from sophomore middle hitter Nadine Harkless (Westfield, MA) and also received a match-high 16 assists from freshman setter Ashley Provost (Ludlow, MA). Junior libero Davi Chuong (Easthampton, MA) was outstanding defensively for the Wildcats, as she led all players with a match-high 16 digs.

Newbury returns to non-conference play when it hosts Emmanuel on Tuesday, October 27 at 7:00 p.m. Bay Path concludes its 2009 season on Saturday, October 31 at Daniel Webster. Match time is 1:00 p.m.
