Wildcats Claw Blue Jays 7-2

NEW LONDON, Conn.-The Wildcats of Bay Path tally first win on the season defeating the Blue Jays of St. Joseph's (Conn.) 7-2 in NCAA Division III women's tennis action.

Bay Path won five of the six singles action earning five points. In the #1 singles match, senior Julia Bendzin (Poestenkill, N.Y.)  won 6-3, 6-2. In the #2 singles action senior Cristina Ruiz (Waterbury, Conn.) fought hard for a 1-6, 6-3 (10-6) tie-break match.

Sophomore Sara Costa (Tiverton, R.I.) shut-down her opponent 6-2, 6-0 in the #3 spot, while junior Carolina Ynquanzo (Springfield, Mass.) won her match 7-6, 6-4 in the #4 singles. Rounding out the singles victories at the #5 position was sophomore Lianna Loveitt (Gorham, Maine) 6-3, 6-4.

In doubles action the powerhouse tandem of Ruiz and Cost won the #2 spot 8-2. Senior Kara Fox (Biddeford, Maine) and her partner freshman newcomer Shaneela Shaheen(Wallingford, Conn.) picked up their first win 8-4 in the #3 spot.

Bay Path advances to 1-1 overall.
