Bay Path Tops NECC Women's Tennis Preseason Poll
ATTLEBORO, Mass. - Bay Path College has been tabbed as the
preseason favorite to capture the New England Collegiate Conference
(NECC) women's tennis championship, it was announced today by
Commissioner Del Malloy. Voting for the preseason poll was
conducted among the NECC's head women's tennis coaches.
The Bay Path College Wildcats (13-2, 6-0 NECC) received all five
first-place votes in the 2009 NECC preseason poll. The Wildcats are
led by sixth year head coach Steve Morneau. Bay Path returns six
players and five starters.
Bay Path will be led by a trio of First Team All-NECC seniors'
Julia Bendzin (Poestenkill, N.Y.), Kara Fox (Biddeford, Maine) and
Cristina Ruiz (Waterbury, Conn.) along with the 2008 NECC Rookie of
the Year sophomore Sarah Costa (Tiverton, R.I.).
Becker College received 20 points to claim the second spot. Newbury
College was third with 11 points while Mitchell College was fourth
with 10 points. Newcomer Lesley University rounded out the ballot
in fifth place with nine points. Lesley begins their inaugural
campaign in 2009.
Teams received five points for every first place vote received,
four points for second place votes, three points for third place
votes, down to one point for a last place vote. First place votes
are shown in parentheses.
