Wildcats Sink Mariners 7-2 in NECC Women’s Tennis Action

LONGMEADOW, Mass.- NECC Player of the Week, junior Sarah Costa (Tiverton, R.I.) and senior Carolina Ynguanzo (Springfield, Mass.)continue their singles streak each winning their 5th straight match for the Wildcats. Bay Path College defeated New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) rival Mitchell College 7-2 today.

 

Bay Path's Costa took the #2 singles 6-3, 6-3 from senior Kelly Walsh (Philadelphia, Penn.). Freshman Symone Watson (Hamden, Conn.) won her #3 singles match 6-0, 6-0 shutting down junior Amanda Resnick (Ridgewood, N.J.). In #4 singles action Ynguanzo defeated senior Ashley Boutin (Newington, Conn.) 6-1, 6-0, while freshman Ashley Sears (Turners Falls, Mass.) took the #6 singles spot 6-2, 6-1 from sophomore Caitlin Brown (San Mateo, Calif.).

 

The Mariners two points came from the #1 singles and #5 singles. NECC Rookie of the Week, freshman Mackenzie Flanagan (San Anselmo, Calif.) came from behind to take senior Lauren Hangasky (Ludlow, Mass.) 1-6, 6-0, 6-4. In the #5 singles action junior Lauren Rowley (Seattle, Wash.) beat junior Lianna Loveitt (Gorham, Maine) 6-4, 6-4.

 

Bay Path won all three doubles matches 8-4, 8-1 and 8-3. Loveitt and her partner sophomore Shaneela Shaheen (Wallingford, Conn.) nabbed the #3 doubles win 8-3 over Rowley and sophomore Julie Embry Lawrenceville, N.J.).

 

Bay Path is now 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the NECC, while Mitchell falls to 0-5 on the season and 0-2 in conference play. Mitchell will host Lesley on Thursday, September 23 at 3:30 p.m., while Bay Path faces the Lynx on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
