Wildcats Claws Past Hawks 6-3 in Women's Tennis Action

Bay Path Claws Past Becker

LEICESTER,  Mass.- Bay Path College improved to 7-1 as the Wildcats defeated Becker College 6-3 in New England Collegiate Conference women's tennis action. Both teams are now sharing the top spot as they split earlier in the season with Wildcats falling 5-4 in their first meeting.

In number one doubles play junior Sarah Costa (Tiverton, RI.) and  senior Lauren Hangasky (Ludlow, Mass.) revenged their early season loss to Danielle Stryker (Ledyard, Conn.) and Shauna McNally (Worcester, Mass.), by defeating the Becker tandem 9-7.

In number two doubles action Laura Mimms (Ashland, Mass.) and Megan Nessen (Levittown, PA.) defeated freshman Symone Watson (Hamden, Conn.) and senior Carolina Ynguanzo (Springfield, Mass.) 9-7, for the Hawks lone win in double action.

Bay Path completed the victory in double action when freshman Shaneela Shaheen (Wallingford, Conn.) and junior Lianna Loveitt (Gorham, ME.) defeated Courtney Johnson (Auburn, ME.) and Lianna Woodbury (South Dennis, Mass.) 8-6.

Taking the doubles was half the battle to their earlier loss. The winning point came from the #6 singles match where freshman Ashley Sears (Turners Falls, Mass.) won her match 6-4, 6-2 to grab the advantage and secure the victory.

In singles action Bay Path won four out of six of the matches to seal the win. In number one singles Becker's Megan Nessen defeated Lauren Hangasky 6-2, 6-2. In number two singles the red hot Sarah Costa defeated Laura Mimms 6-4, 7-5. In number three singles Danielle Stryker got the last win for the Hawks as she defeated Symone Watson 6-1, 6-2.

The Wildcats won the final three singles sets as Bay Path improved to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in the NECC. The loss was the Hawks first of the season in the NECC as Becker fell to 8-4 overall and 5-1 in conference
