Bay Path Shuts Down Albertus Magnus 9-0 in Women’s Tennis Action

LONGMEADOW, Mass. --The Wildcats of Bay Path unable to claw Hawks of Becker College in heated New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women’s tennis match falling 6-3 today. Both teams  battled until the end with three matches going to tie-break sets.

 In doubles action, Becker managed to take all three points winning three hard fought battles with the Wildcats. In #1 singles action junior Shauna McNally (Worcester, Mass.) and senior Danielle Stryker (Ledyard, Conn.) defeated senior Lauren Hangasky (Ludlow, Mass.) and junior Sarah Costa (Tiverton, R.I.) in barn-burner fashion winning 7-3 in the tie-break set after a 9-8 final score.

The #2 and #3 doubles matches were similar in fashion each going the distance with freshman Symone Watson (Hamden, Conn.) and senior Carolina Ynguanzo (Springfield, Mass.) falling 8-6 to the Hawk tandem of junior Laura Mimms (Ashland, Mass.) and junior Megan Nessen (Levittown, Penn.).  In the three spot junior Lianna Loveitt (Gorham, Maine) with partner freshman Ashley Sears (Turners Falls, Mass.) fell 9-7.

Bay Path’s Costa, Ynguanzo and Loveitt all took their respective singles matches. Costa defeated Mimms  6-4, 6-1 in the #2 singles action, while Loveitt defeated junior Jessica Burdick (Clinton, Mass.) 6-4, 6-3. Ynguanzo went the distance for the Wildcats taking it in a tie-break set 1-6, 6-2, 7-6.

For the Hawks Nessen, Stryker and Woodbury all won their singles matches, with Woodbury taking hers to three as well 2-6, 6-1, 5-7 for the victory.

Bay Path is now 2-1 overall and 1-1 in conference, while Becker is 5-2 on the season and 2-0 in the NECC. Bay Path will host Albertus Magnus tomorrow at 1:00 p.m., while Becker will be back in action on Tuesday, September 21st travelling to face NECC opponent Lesley at 6:00 p.m.
