Bay Path Finished Regular Season on High Note with 9-0 Win over MCLA

LONGMEADOW, Mass. - Bay Path College finishes regular season play defeating regional opponent MCLA 9-0 securing at least a piece of the 2010 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) title. The Wildcats finish strong with a 10-1 overall record and 7-1 in conference play. MCLA falls to 1-8 overall.

Again the Wildcats came up big in doubles action taking all three of the matches. Senior Lauren Hangasky (Ludlow, Mass.) and junior Sarah Costa (Tiverton, R.I.) won 8-5 in the #1 flight.

In the #2 doubles spot freshman Symone Watson (Hamden, Conn.) and senior Carolina Ynguanzo (Springfield, Mass.) took their match 8-5, while junior Lianna Loveitt (Gorham, Maine) and sophomore Shaneela Shaheen (Wallingford, Conn.) easily won 8-1 in the three flight.

Hangasky fought a hard battle coming back from losing her first set 5-7 and winning the next two tie break sets 10-8, 10-8 in the #1 singles spot. Costa, Watson and Ynguanzo also took the #2 through #4 flights easily. NECC Rookie of the Week, freshman Ashley Sears (Turners Falls, Mass.) won the #5 flight in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Senior Tara Mullane (Bondsville, Mass.) came out the victor with a 6-4, 6-1 victory in the final spot.

Bay Path will be heading to the 2010 NECC Flighted Tournament this upcoming weekend hosted by the Wildcats at the Enfield Tennis Club.
