Costa, Sears and Bartels Earn NECC Weekly Honors

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Bay Path College junior Sarah Costa (Tiverton, R.I.) led the Wildcats to a 2-0 conference sweep. Costa won both her #2 singles matches including a 6-3, 6-2 win over Newbury’s Kristen Conners and a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Becker’s Laura Mimms. After a disappointing earlier season loss to top seeded Becker 5-4, Bay Path split with the Hawks this past weekend defeating Becker 6-3. Bay Path also defeated Newbury 7-2. Costa split in #1 doubles action coming up with a big win over Becker’s #1 tandem Shauna McNally and Danielle Stryker 9-7 with partner Lauren Hangasky.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Fellow Wildcat, Bay Path freshman Ashley Sears (Turners Falls, Mass.) won the deciding fifth point in her #6 singles match defeating Becker’s Lianna Woodbury 6-4, 6-2 helping the Wildcats to a 6-3 victory over the Hawks. After a disappointing earlier season loss to top seeded Becker 5-4, Bay Path split with the Hawks this past weekend defeating Becker 6-3. Bay Path also defeated Newbury 7-2. Sears went 2-0 in #6 singles and split 1-1 in #3 doubles action.

VOLLEYBALL

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK — Bay Path College freshman right side hitter Kate Bartels (Dalton, Mass.) helped lead the Wildcats to their first-ever conference victory over Mitchell College 3-0. For the week, Bay Path split 1-1 also falling to Lesley 3-0.  She tallied 12 kills (2.00 per set), eight digs (1.33 per set), three assists (0.50 per set), four service aces (0.67 per set) and three blocks (0.50 per set).
