2010 NECC Womens Tennis Tournament Concludes
ENFIELD, Conn.—The 2010 New England Collegiate Conference
(NECC) women's tennis tournament ended today after 27 flights

home with awards and flight champions including Bay Path, Becker
College, Lesley University and Newbury College.
Newbury #4 seed sophomore Julie MacLeod (Buffalo,
N.Y.) and freshman Stephanie Ruffin (Waltham,
Mass.) worked their way through the upper seeds after a bye on day
one due to a Lesley tandem withdrawal. McLeod and Ruffin upset the
Bay Path tandem of junior Lianna Loveitt (Gorham,
Maine) and sophomore Shaneela Shaheen
(Wallingford, Conn.) 8-1 as the first flight champions to win in
the third flight.
Host Bay Path #2 seed junior Sarah Costa (Tiverton, R.I) and senior Lauren Hangasky (Ludlow, Mass.) upset Becker #1 seed junior Shauna McNally (Worcester, Mass.) and her partner senior Danielle Stryker (Ledyard, Conn.) 8-5 as the second match to finish.
The final doubles match saw Becker's #1 seed junior Laura Mimms (Ashland, Mass.) and junior Megan Nessen (Levittown, Penn) defeating Lesley sister tandem senior Michelle Side (Miller Place, N.Y.) and sophomore Katie Side (Miller Place, N.Y.) 8-5.
In the singles championship flight, Becker #1 seed Stryker quickly overtook Lesley #2 seed Katie Side 6-2, 6-2 to become the first singles champion at the third flight. While finishing closely behind them was Bay Path's #1 seed Costa defeating Lesley #2 seed Michelle Side 6-2, 6-3.
Winning the next award was the fourth flight champion. The Becker #2 seed McNally overcame Bay Path #1 seed senior Carolina Ynguanzo (Springfield, Mass.) 7-5, 6-4 in a tough battle.
The next two flight champions in the fifth flight and first flight were Becker's Nessen and Lesley's sophomore Brenna Donovan (Hingham, Mass.). Nessen came back to defeat the #1 seed Mitchell freshman Mackenzie Flanagan (San Anselmo, Calif.) in three sets 1-6, 7-5, 6-2. The #1 seed Donovan won 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 in hard fought match against Bay Path #4 seed Loveitt.
