Wildcats Pounce Past Lynx 6-3

LONGMEADOW, Mass.- The Wildcats of Bay Path improve to 8-1 overall and 6-1 in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) play defeating the Lynx of Lesley University today 6-3 in NCAA DIII women's tennis action.

The Wildcats came up big in doubles action taking all three of the matches. Senior Lauren Hangasky (Ludlow, Mass.) and junior Sarah Costa (Tiverton, R.I.) defeated Lesley pair junior Courtney Mullen (Springfield, Ore.) and junior Hagar Memlies (Kiryat Tivon, Israel) 8-5 in the #1 flight.

In the #2 doubles spot freshman Symone Watson (Hamden, Conn.) and senior Carolina Ynguanzo (Springfield, Mass.) overcame the tandem sister act of senior Michelle Side and sophomore Katie Side, both hailing from Miller Place, N.Y., 8-6. In the third and final doubles flight, junior Lianna Loveitt (Gorham, Maine) and sophomore Shaneela Shaheen (Wallingford, Conn.) easily won 8-3 over senior Michelle Smith (Rindge, N.H.) and newcomer Ellen Sealy.

Bay Path went on the win the #2, #4 and #6 singles action with NECC Player of the Week Costa, Ynguanzo and NECC Rookie of the Week Ashley Sears (Turners Falls, Mass).  Sears shut down her opponent Sealy 6-0, 6-0 for the victory at the #6 spot.

Lesley's Mullen, Katie Smith and Memlies earned the three points for the Lynx winning the#1, #3 and #5 flights in singles action.

NECC women's tennis action resumes tomorrow to catch up on some rain-outs with Bay Path travelling to Mitchell and Lesley heading to Becker both matches beginning at 3:30 p.m.
