Bay Path Honors Seniors in Final Regular Reason Home Match

LONGMEADOW, Mass.-The Wildcats of Bay Path fell 3-1 in Senior Day Festivities to New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) opponents the Hawks of Becker College today at Ryan Field after a rescheduled time due to a rain out yesterday.

Both teams remained scoreless at the half with the Wildcats' senior goalkeeper Samantha Gunseth (Swanzey, N.H.) keeping busy between the sticks. Gunseth faced 32 shots total and saw 20 in the first half with four saves.

Becker struck first in the 47th minute of play after sophomore forward Alexandra Fernandes (Tucson, Ariz.) broke up the stalemate netting her tenth goal on the season and the first one of the contest.

Bay Path answered back eight minutes later when freshman forward Katelyn Dupuis (Chicopee, Mass.) found the back of the net at 54:58 breaking up the Hawks' senior keeper Shannon Tibbetts (Warren, Mass.) shut-out.

Freshman midfielder Caroline Plunkett (Rockaway, N.Y.) booted the game winning shot at 74:25 on the clock. Plunkett than proceeded to add an insurance goal for the Hawks eight minutes later at 82:59 on the clock off a cross by teammate Fernandes.

Tibbetts finished with two saves, while Gunseth had 10 saves for the Wildcats.

Along with Gunseth fellow senior members honored included midfielder/defender Christina Calabrese (Hamilton, N.J.), senior defender/midfielder Silvia Galvan (Wilbraham, Mass.) and forward/defender Christine Hollingworth (Lenox, Mass.). Hollingworth also had a shot on the match.

Becker is now 9-7 overall and 4-3 in NECC play, while Bay Path is 3-12 on the season and 2-5 in conference play. Bay Path will travel to Lesley on October 31st for a noon game and Becker will host Newbury on Saturday as well at 4:00 p.m.
