Bay Path Gets Tricked on Halloween by the #1 Seeded Lesley
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - In the 29th minute against Bay Path College, Lesley University senior striker Jodi Fralick (WOBURN, Mass./Woburn) joined an elite group of Division III women's soccer players by scoring her 100th career collegiate goal. With the right-footed blast, Fralick became just the 15th player in NCAA Division III women's soccer history to accomplish this tremendous feat. For the 3-0 loss to top seeded and undefeated Lesley University on Halloween.
The goal was her 29th goal of 2009 which follows seasons of 27 goals in 2008, 22 goals in 2007, and 22 goals in 2006. Fralick won First Team All-Conference each of the last three seasons and has earned Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year honors from the North Atlantic Conference in 2006 and 2007, respectively. The New England Collegiate Conference will announce their All-Conference winners on Saturday, November 7.
Fralick's goal, assisted by freshman Sarah Levitt (SILVER SPRING, Md./James Hubert Blake), was the third and final goal of the match for the Lynx who shutout the Wildcats of Bay Path College 3-0 to end the regular season with a 14-3-1 record. Lesley went undefeated in conference play with an 8-0 mark and will claim the number one seed in the NECC playoffs starting next week.
The first goal of the match was scored at 11:50 by senior captain Cathryn Folkestad (IPSWICH, Mass./Ipswich) who finished off a left-to-right cross by Levitt for her fifth goal of the season. Later in the 25th minute, an attempted clear out of the goalie box by a Wildcat defender ricocheted off another Bay Path player and into the net for an own goal.
Despite giving up three goals in the match, Bay Path keeper Samantha Gunseth (SWANZEY, N.H./Monadnock) was solid between the posts with 17 saves as the senior was fired upon heavily by the Lesley offense. She faced a total of 32 shots by the Lynx, 20 of which were on goal.
Lesley's net minder Hailee Lowe (HAMILTON, Mass./Hamilton-Wenham Regional) recorded her sixth shutout of the season and the 23rd of her four-year career.
Bay Path dropped their 2009 record to 3-13 (2-6 NECC) following the loss.
With a bye through the conference quarterfinals, the Lynx will now wait to find out who their opponent will be for their November 5 NECC Semifinal match.
