Bay Path Falls 8-0 in Season Opener Against Albertus Magnus

LONGMEADOW, Mass.--The Wildcats of Bay Path had a rough season opener falling 8-0 against the Falcons of Albertus Magnus in NCAA Division III women's soccer action at Ryan Field.

The Falcons struck early with the first goal and eventual game winning shot in the second minute of action when junior midfielder  Ashley Velazquez (New Haven, Conn.) netted an unassisted shot .

Bay Path was unable to handle the scoring frenzy of Albertus Magnus notching three more goals in the first half. Junior forward Sam Gigliotti (Wilton, Conn.) notched her third goal of the season in the 6th minute of play off a cross inside the box by freshman defender Danielle Figueroa (Bridgeport, Conn.).

Sophomore forward Krystal Quinones (Bridgeport, Conn.) tallied the next two goals for the Falcons. Again Figueroa recorded an assist along with sophomore forward Sarah Boudreau (Pascoag, R.I.). Quinones netted the third at the 12th minute, while converting the fourth off a beautifully played corner from Boudreau in the 27th minute of play.

In the last two minutes of the half, junior midfielder Jenna Riccio (North Branford, Conn.) found the back of the net off a well played cross by sophomore midfielder Brittney Geremia (Northford, Conn.) from 20 yards back.

Albertus Magnus' bench played significant minutes with key reservist freshman midfielder Alicea Aldrich (West Haven, Conn.)  scoring her first collegiate goal along with the Falcon's sixth and seventh goal of the game. At the 63rd minute Aldrich drove the ball from midfield past two defenders to score her first unassisted goal. Five minutes later, Aldrich again sliced one past the keeper off a cross from senior forward Leanna Wiesslender (New Haven, Conn.).

At the 79th minute, Wiesslender notched the final goal of the game off another assist by Boudreau.

Bay Path senior keeper Samantha Gunseth (Swanzey, N.H.) had eight saves for Bay Path. St. Joseph had 23 shots on 16 shots on goal.

Junior forwards Sandra Caldas (Leal Da Camara, PT) and Jacqui Siddle (Palmer, Mass.) attempted the two lone shots for the Wildcats.

St. Joseph is now 2-0 on the season while Bay Path is now 0-1 overall. The Wildcats will be back in action on Tuesday, September 8th travelling to Hartford to take on St. Joseph's College.
