Wildcats Fall Short in Tough 2-1 Loss to Blazers

LONGMEADOW, Mass. - Coming off the bench, senior midfielder Lindsie Lavin (Feeding Hills, Mass.) led the Bay Path Wildcats with her first goal on the season. Despite the close game, Bay Path fell 2-1 in a New England Collegiate Conference match against the Blazers of Elms College today at Ryan Field.

The Blazers struck first in the third minute of play when junior forward Andrea Ramsdell (Gardner, Mass.) scored off an inside pass by senior teammate and fellow forward Tomie Lafond (Hatfield, Mass.).

Senior forward Danielle Boyer (South Hadley, Mass.) netted the eventual game winner only seven minutes later at 10:28.

The Wildcats were able to prevent the Blazers from scoring in the next eight minutes of play. Bay Path outshot the Blazers seven to five, with both teams dead even at six apiece for corners.

Lavin broke up the Blazers shut-out scoring in the 34th minute of play off a long pass by junior midfielder Jessica Priestly (Middleboro, Mass.).

Freshman goalie Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) was awarded the win with one save and one goal against for Elms. Sophomore keeper Samantha Berrios (New York, N.Y.) suffered the loss with one save and two goals against.

Lavin, Priestly and junior Raquela Richard (Providence, R.I.) each finished with two shots apiece combining for six, while senior Sarah Gates (Crown Point, Ind.) had one shot.

Elms is now 3-8 on the season and 2-3 in the NECC, while Bay Path falls to 0-9 overall and 0-5 in conference play. Bay Path will be back in action on October 12 heading to Rivier for a "Columbus Day" match at noon.  Elms hosts a non-conference match against Anna Maria on October 15 at 7:00 p.m.
