Anna Maria Shuts Out Bay Path 7-0

PAXTON, Mass. - Junior Emily Nugent (Worcester, Mass.) had a hat-trick and an assist to lead the Anna Maria College field hockey team past Bay Path College, 7-0, at AMCAT Field on Wednesday evening. The win was the first of the year for the AMCATS, who now improve to 1-5 overall while remaining 0-2 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference. With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 0-5 overall and stay 0-2 in the New England Collegiate Conference.

Anna Maria came out firing in the first half, collecting 14 shots in the period. Freshman Marissa Cosenza (Worcester, Mass.) got the scoring started with her first collegiate goal on an unassisted tally just over ten minutes into the half.

Nugent followed with her first goal of the day just over eight minutes later, and then set up freshman Amanda Winn (Winsted, Conn.) for a score in the 24th minute, giving AMC a 3-0 advantage. The goal was the first of Winn's collegiate career.

The AMCATS continued to apply the pressure in the second half, scoring four goals on 10 shots.  Bay Path had 4 shots and 2 on goal for the contest.

Wildcat sophomore Samantha Berrios (New York, N.Y.) tallied nine saves for the game while facing 24 shots and 16 on goal.

Nugent scored twice in the half to complete the hat-trick while sophomore Kate Schebel (Ludlow, Mass.) dished out three assists. Junior Sarah Boyda (Oxford, Mass.) had both a goal and an assist in the period, while senior Angela Giuffrida (Leicester, Mass) added her first goal of the season.

Bay Path will take to the field again on Saturday when they host New England Collegiate Conference Opponent Wheelock at 1:00 p.m. Anna Maria will be back in action on Saturday as well, hosting Gordon College in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup at 10:00 am.
