Monks Beat Wildcats in Women’s Field Hockey Action

LONGMEADOW, Mass.-The Monks of St. Joseph's College of Maine dealt the Wildcats of Bay Path a 13-0 loss today at the Ryan Field in NCAA Division III women's field hockey action.

Seven different players from St. Joseph's scored today. Three Monks' managed to notch hat-tricks for the shut-out. 

Junior forward Kayla Nowell (Bridgton, Maine), one of the talented trio, struck first in the fourth minute scoring the eventual game winner off a cross inside from teammate senior midfielder Jaimee Brett (Otisfield, Maine). Nowell again scored the fourth and fifth goal for the Monks in the first half. Nowell tallied three assists in the first half totaling nine points to lead her team.

Also part of the trio senior forward Julia Ostrowski (Albany, N.Y.) scored the second goal in the fifth minute and answered again in the 14th minute with the third goal. Both were assisted by Nowell. Ostrowski finished her scoring in the 26th minute off a double assist by Nowell and sophomore defender Alyssa Dunn (Standish, Maine).

Key reservist junior forward Courtney Rague (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) was the final member of the talented trio. Rague took over in the second half netting the tenth, eleventh and final goal for the Monks.   Two of her goals were unassisted and the final was off a pass up the middle from freshman forward Stephanie Lombardo (Steep Falls). Lombardo tallied three assists and one goal for the game.

Three other Monks netted goals for the Monks including starting defender Jillian Kimball (Albany Township, Maine), reservist sophomore midfielder Olivia Tourangeau (Old Orchard Beach, Maine and reservist sophomore forward Sarah Bartell (Exeter, N.H.).

Thomas had a total of 22 shots for the game and 14 penalty corners to Bay Path's one penalty corner and no shots. The Wildcats' starting goalie sophomore Samantha Berrios (New York, N.Y.) tallied five saves. The Wildcats' lone PK came from senior forward Sarah Gates (Crown Point, Ind.).

Bay Path falls to 0-2 overall, while St. Joseph's is now 1-0 on the season. Bay Path hosts NECC rival Daniel Webster on September 12th at 1:00 p.m.
