Priestly Notches First Goal for Bay Path in 4-1 Loss

LONGMEADOW, Mass.-Despite the loss, sophomore defender Jessica Priestly (Middleboro, Mass.) tallied the first goal on the season for the Wildcats. The Wildcats of Bay Path succumbed 4-1 in the New England Collegiate Conference opener to the Eagles of Daniel Webster today in NCAA Division III field hockey action at Ryan Field.

"The Team had an incredible first half of play holding Daniel Webster scoreless and playing great hockey," said Wildcat Head Coach Katie Jones. "They never stopped playing with heart and it was great to see a goal in the second half. If we continue to work hard we could be a very competitive team in conference."

Bay Path held Daniel Webster to a scoreless first half. The Eagles took five shots to the Wildcats three shots in the first 35 minutes of play. Both keepers tallied one save a piece.

Coming back from break, a dynamic duo for the Eagles scored two goals apiece to secure the victory.

The Eagles however came out of the half-time break on fire with sophomore midfielder Natalie Bates (N. Kingstown, R.I.) finding the back of the net at 39:04 on the clock notching the first goal from just inside the circle.

Bates would continue to control the field and scored less than one minute later again unassisted slapping the ball past Bay Path's keeper sophomore Samantha Berrios (New York, N.Y.)  after a blocked shot to tally the eventual game winning goal.

Coming off the bench, the other half of the dynamic duo freshman forward Kyla Palaschak (E. Bridgewater, Mass.) scored the next two insurance goals.  Teammates freshman forward Laura Gianetti (Ashburnham, Mass.) and senior midfielder Briana DeSeignora (Medfield, Mass.) each added assists to Palaschak's goals.

Daniel Webster had a total of 15 shots and seven on goal, while Bay Path five shots and three on goal. The Wildcats' starting goalie sophomore Samantha Berrios (New York, N.Y.) tallied three saves. The Eagles' keeper sophomore Amy Prince (Hope Valley, R.I.) picked up the win with one save.

Bay Path had three other players register shots for the game including: senior midfielder Lindsie Lavin (Feeding Hills, Mass.) with two, freshman forward Elizabeth Barclay (Auburn, Maine) and sophomore forward Madeline Jones (Brattleboro, Vt.).

Sophomore midfielder Amber Hogenmiller (Hinsdale, N.H.) tallied a defensive save for the Wildcats.

Bay Path falls to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the NECC, while Daniel Webster is now 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in conference play. Bay Path faces NECC rival Daniel Webster again on September 19th on the road at 1:00 p.m. Daniel Webster hosts Regis on September 16th at 3:30 p.m.
