NECC Announces Field Hockey Preseason Poll

ATTLEBORO, Mass. - Becker College has been tabbed as the preseason favorite to capture the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) field hockey championship, it was announced today by Commissioner Del Malloy. Voting for the preseason poll was conducted among the NECC's head field hockey coaches. 

The 2008 NECC Champions' Becker College Hawks (12-10, 8-0 NECC) received four of the five first-place votes in the 2009 NECC preseason poll garnering 24 points. The Hawks are led by sixth year head coach Tanya Stonehouse, 2008 NECC Coach of the Year.
 
The Hawks will be led by a quartet of All NECC players; NECC Honorable Mention player junior defender Jessica Provencher (Berwick, Maine), First team All NECC junior midfielder Carrie Ann Hart (Belfast, Maine), First Team All NECC sophomore forward Nicole Lijana (Moorestown, N.J.) and NECC Rookie of the Year sophomore midfielder Victoria Sirchia (Goshen, Conn.).
 
Elms College received one first-place vote with 19 points to claim the runner-up spot. Wheelock was third with 14 points while Daniel Webster garnered the fourth place spot with 13 points. Bay Path rounded out the top five with five points.
 
Teams received five points for every first place vote received, four points for second place votes, three points for third place votes, down to one point for a last place vote. First place votes are shown in parentheses.
