Bay Path Falls to Rivier in Columbus Day Battle
NASHUA, NH - Rivier welcomed NECC opponent Bay Path College to Nashua today and exploded for 9 goals to beat Bay Path 9-1 for the Raiders second win of the season. Bay Path's senior forward Sarah Gates (Crown Point, Ind.) netted her first goal on the season to break-up the Raiders shut-out.
Freshman Meghan MacDonanld (Dedham, Mass.) scored the first goal of her career today to help the Raiders to the victory and decided she liked it so much she went ahead and scored 2 more to give herself a hat trick in the Raiders 9-1 win.
Freshman Ashley Ruocco (East Kingston, N.H.) started things off as she scored Rivier's first goal from a pass by MacDonald just after the 21 minute mark in the first half. From that point on the Raiders kept the pressure on as they scored 4 more times in the half to give the Raiders a 4-1 half time lead.
Rivier added 5 more goals in the second half while limiting Bay Path to only 5 shots on goal. Ruocco had 2 goals, MacDonald 3, while Annie Braier (Saugus, Mass.), Lindsay Rettenmeier (Ashford, Conn.), Erin Gatsas (Manchester, N.H.), Sara Wilson (Stow, Mass.)each chipped in with 1 goal each. Kristen Tyler (Thornton, N.H.) had 2 assists with MacDonald, Ruocco, Wilson and Gatsas each getting 1 assist each.
Goalkeeper Jenna Beadle (Rumney, N.H.) recorded 4 saves on 5 shots by Bay Path, with the only goal coming from Bay Path's senior forward Gates with just over 5 minutes remaining in the first half.
Three other Wildcats tallied shots for the day including junior midfielder Sam Bosco (Bridgewater, Mass.) with two, freshman forward Elizabeth Barclay (Auburn, Maine) and junior defender Lauren Czaikowski (Glastonbury, Conn.) each with one shot.
Sophomore goalkeeper Samantha Berrios (New York, N.Y.) had 15 saves for the match.
The win improves Rivier's record to 2-6 while Bay Path drops to 0-10 this season. Rivier will host Simmons College on Saturday, October 17 at 5:00 PM. Bay Path will host Ramapo of New Jersey on Saturday, October 17 at 12:30 p.m.
