Bay Path College Women's Basketball Team Volunteers at Friends of the Homeless

Just four days into the basketball season, the Bay Path College women's basketball team took time away from the court to give back to the community. The team volunteered on Sunday morning at Friends of the Homeless preparing and serving food to over 115 individuals.  The team arrived early and helped slice bread, scramble eggs, and other various prep work. At 10:00AM the doors opened and they helped serve a hot breakfast to the Greater Springfield poor and homeless.

Friends of the Homeless, located in Springfield, MA, is a private, non-profit agency leading a city-wide effort to ensure that emergency shelter is only the first step toward permanent housing. Friends of the Homeless serves three meals a day, seven days a week.

Junior Katie Begin stated "this volunteering experience was an eye opening experience for me and showed me how much I take for granted every day.  It also helped me to appreciate the opportunities I have been given and helped me understand that everything can be taken away at any moment.  Coach Toner always explains to us that he is there to not only teach basketball, but to teach life lessons.  This was without a doubt a life lesson that I don't think I could have gotten any other way.  I want to thank the girls for sharing this experience with me and I cannot wait to go back to volunteer again."
