BlueJays Fly Past Wildcats in Home Opener

HOLYOKE, Mass.- The Wildcats fall 80-57 in Bay Path's home opener to the BlueJays of University of St. Joseph in NCAA Division III regional women's basketball action tonight at the Bartley Center.

Junior guard Justine Hook (Berwick, Penn.) led the Wildcats with 13 points going 4-for-8 from the field and 4-for-6 from the line. Hook also added four assists, three boards and three steals.

St. Joseph's junior guard Devon Diliberto (Waterbury, Conn.) topped all players with 19 points and five assist. Three other BlueJays scored in the double figures. Sophomore forward Heather Framski (Prospect, Conn.)added 14 points and five rebounds, while fellow starting forward junior Mary Hyde (Derby, Conn.) had eleven points and team high seven rebounds.  Coming off the bench, freshman guard Stephanie DeJesus (Meriden, Conn.) rounded off the double figures in scoring for the BlueJays with ten points.
 

Besides Hook, two other Wildcats notched double figures with sophomore newcomer Katherine Chabot (Brookfield, Mass.) scoring 12 points, while junior forward Kayla Skiffington (East Longmeadow, Mass.) added ten points and six rebounds. Defensively freshman forward Stephanie Synott (Torrington, Conn.) had a game nine rebounds.

Despite a rough start by the Wildcats being outscored 48-21 in the first half, Bay Path managed to outscore the BlueJays 36-32 in the second half. Unfortunately, the second half effort was not enough to wage the comeback.

University of St. Joseph is now 2-1 overall, while Bay Path falls to 1-2 on the season. The Wildcats will be back in action Wednesday, November 28th travelling to Brookline to face Pine Manor at a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
