Elms Defeats Bay Path 81-63 in Women’s NECC Hoops Action

HOLYOKE, Mass. - The Wildcats of Bay Path College fell to their local New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) rivals the Blazers of Elms College tonight in women's basketball action 81-63 at the Brantley Center. Despite a lack luster first half displayed by the Wildcats, Bay Path managed to outscore the Blazers in the Second Half 34-31.

Unfortunately for the Wildcats, their spark came to late with Elms' sophomore forward Denisha Parks (Fall River, Mass.) topping all players with 25 points and 12 rebounds. Parks shot 90% (9-out-of-10) from the line.

Bay Path was led by senior guard Brittney Alexander (Enfield, Conn.) and junior forward Kayla Skiffington (East Longmeadow, Mass.) both scoring 16 points. Skiffington finished with her team high rebounds at nine, while Brittney Alexander had five rebounds and three steals. They both combined for five blocks on the night.

Four other Blazers scored in the double figures on the night with sophomore forward Gianna Youngblood (East Freetown, Mass.), senior guard Jen Normandie (Westford, Mass.) and freshman guard Jenna Oyler (Metuchen, N.J.) each tallying eleven points for the night.  Elms had a great night from the arc with Youngblood and Oyler combining for five treys; junior guard Ellen Donohue (Southington, Mass.) helped the effort going 3-4 in three-pointers.

Elms took advantage of the Wildcats turnovers scoring 25 of their points off of turnovers; while Bay Path hit 13 of the points off of offensive rebounds.

Bay Path's sophomore center Gladys Reed (Hamden, Conn.) and sophomore guard Toni Alexander (Enfield, Conn.) each contribute nine points. Reed pulled down eight boards while having two blocks.

Elms is now 10-8 on the season and 9-2 in NECC play, Bay Path is 9-8 overall and 6-5 in conference action. Both teams are on the road Thursday with Elms travelling to Southern Vermont while Bay Path heads south to Mitchell with both starting at 6:00 p.m.
