Skiffington Named to NECC All-Conference Second Team
After missing entirety of last season with torn ACL, Daniel Webster forward Vanessa Bosques was honored as the 2012-13 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Womens' Basketball Player of the Year in a vote by the league's coaches. The graduate student finished the regular season as the league's second leading scorer averaging 20.4 points per conference game, as well as the league's most prolific three point shooter knocking down nearly three per game and best free throw shooter at 85%. Bosques, a three-time all-conference selection and 2009-10 NECC Player of the Year as a sophomore, stands as the all-time basketball scoring leader at Daniel Webster (men or women) with 1,702 points.
Southern Vermont first year guard Amber Flagg was named the NECC Rookie of the Year. Flagg, who earned second-team accolades, ranked in the top 10 several categories including scoring (17.6 ppg), steals (2.7 spg), made free throws, made field goals and made three-point field goals.
A season after being named the league's Rookie of the Year, Elms' Denisha Parks earned her second all-conference first team selection. The sophomore forward led the league in scoring averaging 20.5 points and ranked second in rebounds pulling down 12.7 per contest.
Newbury's Catherine O'Connell, the 2010 NECC Rookie of the Year, was honored as a first team all-conference choice for the second consecutive season. The senior center is ranked fourth nationally averaging 14.9 rebounds per game. O'Connell's 15.5 points, 16.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game in conference play helped the Nighthawks to a 13-5 mark.
A pair of Regis guards, sophomore Emilee Marro along with senior Sabree Rodriquez, helped lead the Pride to a perfect 18-0 mark in the NECC and the conference tournament title.
Rodriguez averaged 12.9 points per game along with 5.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.3 steals while connecting on shot 51.2% from the field. Marro also averaged 12.9 points per game and added 6.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.1 steals. The sophomore shot 46.9% from the field, ranking her fifth in the conference, and posted the second best assist to turnover ratio (2.2).
Regis head coach Julie Plant was honored by her peers as the league's top coach after guiding the Pride to an undefeated 18-0 conference record and their first NECC championship.
Elms College garnered the league's Sportsmanship Award.
NECC all-conference selections are determined by a vote of the conference coaches. Additional players honored are due to ties in the voting process.
