Wildcats Fall to Falcons

NEW HAVEN, Conn.- Bay Path'ssophomore goalkeeper Nicole Ogden (Springfield, Mass.) made 14 saves in net, while allowing eight goals in the tough 8-0 NCAA DIII regional loss to Albertus Magnus College. With the loss Bay Path is now 0-2-1 on the season, while Ogden is 0-1-1 between the sticks facing 41 total shots and 22 on goal.

Sophomore forward Nicole Crossman (Winsted, Conn.) made a valiant efort at scoring for the Wildcats with six shots on goal unfortunately the Falcons backline maintained the shut-out.

Junior Shelley Mirmina (Milford, Conn.) recorded her first career hat trick.

Mirmina, who leads the Falcons with four goals in 2012, capped off the afternoon by drilling a free kick over defenders and into the back of the net in the 81st minute of play. With the win, the Falcons improve to 2-1-0 on the year.

Albertus scored five goals in the first half on 23 shots and held the Wildcats to just two in the frame.  Junior Amanda Roke (Cheshire, Conn.) scored the eventual game-winning goal in the fourth minute as she received the ball in the box from Shannon Skidmore (Terryville, Conn.) and one-timed the pass into the back of the net.

Roke returned the favor in the 12th minute as she found Shannon Skidmore about 15-yards out, where she was able to send the ball past the diving Bay Path keeper. Mirmina netted her first of three in the 14th minute before Albertus put its fourth goal of the afternoon on the scoreboard as Meaghan Skidmore (Terryville, Conn.) scored her first goal of the season. Skidmore was assisted by senior Kelly Marchitto (West Haven, Conn.), while Mirmina scored off of a pass from Danielle Figueroa (Bridgeport, Conn.).

Mirmina's second goal came in the 18th minute of the contest as she took a cross at the far side of the field and beat the keeper. Sophomore Becky Slivinsky (Plainville, Conn.) sent the pass through the box past two defenders to find Mirmina at the far post as the Falcons took a 5-0 lead.

Christina Dineson (Milford, Conn.) started in net for the Falcons and made one save on one shot faced in the opening 45 minutes. Freshman Maria Chase (West Haven, Conn.) started the second half for the Falcons as she played just over 35 minutes in her collegiate debut. Chase shutout the Wildcats as well and made four saves.

Freshman Ryan Clark (Milford, Conn.) also made her first collegiate appearance in net for the Falcons as she made three stops in 9:37 of work.

Marchitto opened the second half for the Falcons by scoring her first goal of the year. In the 61stminute, Marchitto laced a corner kick through the goalkeeper's hands to extend Albertus' lead to six .Brittany Ross (Ansonia, Conn.) added to the Falcons' lead as she scored her second goal of the year in the 72nd minute off of an assist from Victoria Rodriguez (Coventry, R.I.).

The Falcons outshot the Wildcats 41-9 on the afternoon with an 18-7 advantage in the second half. 

Bay Path will continue its out-of-conference schedule by hosting Saint Joseph's College on Monday, September 10th at 3:30 p.m.
