Cats Knot with Dogs 2-2 in Women’s Soccer Actions

LONGMEADOW, Mass.- The Wildcats of Bay Path College faced the Bulldogs of Dean College to a double overtime 2-2 tie today in a women's soccer bout played on Ryan Field. The lengthy bout just made it past the sunset on the 2:25 minute match with numerous injuries on a cold wet October afternoon with the Wildcats notching their second tie now 2-8-2 on the season and Dean coming away with a 7-4-1 overall record.

The Bulldogs struck first in the 13th minute of play with freshman forward Samantha O'Keefe (Worcester, Mass.) netting the first of two girls off a cross from freshman midfielder Morgan Mencio (Avon, Conn.). Just over a minute later, Bay Path evened the score when senior defender Rachael Barber (Lynn, Mass.) flicked the ball past Dean's sophomore keeper Jessica Gelbman (Upper Nyack, N.Y.) after a well played cross by freshman midfielder Brittany Briggs (Adams, Mass.).

Junior midfielder Keelin Dougherty (Northfield, N.H.) set up the next goal for the Wildcats in the 37th minute of play sending a a perfect ball inside for two undefended Wildcats with junior forward Melina Isdith (Rego Park, N.Y.) grabbing the last touch for the goal. Sophomore forward Melissa Toler (Paso Robles, Calif.) was the other Wildcat with a wide open net vying for the goal.

Bay Path headed into the half with the 2-1 lead. Ten minutes into the second half O'Keefe again scored knotting the game at 2-2 at 52:01 on the clock. Freshman forward Naynicel Gomes (Boston, Mass.) was awarded the assist.

Both teams would continue to drive the ball, Bay Path finished with 18 shots while Dean had 36 shots. Despite double overtime neither team would find the back of the net in the extra 20 minutes of play.

Gelbman went the 110 minutes with six saves. Bay Path sophomore goalie Nicole Ogden (Springfield, Mass.) finished with nine saves.

Bay Path travel to Elms in an NECC match Saturday, October 13th at a noon start.
