LONGMEADOW, Mass.—The Bay Path Wildcats hosted the Lynx of Lesley University this afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's soccer action with the Lynx shutting down the Wildcats 8-0 at Ryan Field. Junior midfielder Veronica Halen (San Diego, Calif.) led the Lynx with a hat-trick along with two assists topping all players on the day with eight points.
The Wildcats held the traditionally strong NECC powerhouse Lesley to a scoreless bout for the first 35 minutes of play. Starting sophomore goalkeeper Marina Rhodes (Providence, R.I.) notched five saves in the first half managing to only allow the lone goal of the first 45 minutes at 37:14. Halen met up with a senior defender Chelsea Contre (Pomfret, Conn.) cross to net the first and eventual game winning goal.
Coming back from the 10 minute half-time break Lesley came out with a mission and started the offensive drive. Freshman midfielder Hayley Wirth (Escondido, Calif.) didn't waste any time scoring 52 seconds into the second half after a cross from Halen in the corner. Two minutes later at 47:37 sophomore reservist Alexis Guisti (Meridian, Calif.) would nail the first of her two consecutive goals with a long shot back from 25 yards. Guisti would repeat at 50:14 off a pass by Halen
Halen would score then proceed to score the fifth and sixth goal. Freshman forward Isabella Vidana (San Marcos, Calif.) after just checking into the game would be in the right spot in front of the net to receive a well played cross by freshman forward Samantha Rapant (Pittsfield, Mass.) to net her first collegiate goal.
The Lynx would finish up scoring at 84:17 on the clock with freshman midfielder Melinda Robinson (Plano, Texas) netting the final game of the match.
Rhodes (1-3-0) would suffer the loss for the Wildcats allowing six goals while tallying seven saves. Sophomore keeper Nicole Ogden (Springfield, Mass.) would take over for the final 25 minutes with one save and two goals against. They combined to face 32 shots and 16 on goal.
Lesley's starting net minder sophomore Emileigh Lloyd (Middletown, Penn.) picked up the win. Lloyd is now 5-1-2 with the shared shut-out. Junior goalie Victoria Ellis (Laguna Beach, Calif.) shared the shut-out for her 32 minutes of play.
Bay Path is now 2-7-1 overall and 1-1-0 in the NECC, while Lesley remains at the top of the conference with an 8-1-2 record and 3-0 in league play. Lesley will host Wheelock on Sunday, October 7th at a noon start, while Bay Path will travel to Becker on Saturday, October 6th for a 12:00 p.m. match.
