Wildcats Shut Down AMCATS 4-0

Paxton, Mass. –Four Wildcats scored en route to Bay Path's first victory of the season shutting down the AMCATS of Anna Maria in regional women's soccer action 4-0. Junior midfielder Emily Serrano (Savoy, Mass.) struck first for Bay Path proving to be the eventual game winner.

AMCAT Freshman goalkeeper Sarah Benvenuti (Southbridge, Mass.) made 19 saves but it wasn't enough as the Anna Maria Women's Soccer team.

 Bay Path scored three first half goals, they tipped the scoreboard in the 12th minute,  when Serrano blocked an AMCAT clear and buried a shot from 25 yards out over the out stretched fingertips of Benvenuti.  The Wildcats made it 2-0 just minutes later when sophomore forward Melissa Toler (Paso Robles, Calif.) put a shot past Benvenuti that just broke thru the goaltender.

Bay Path made it 3-0 less than a minute later with a freshman midfielder Brittany Briggs (Adams, Mass.) goal. The Wildcats headed into the half with a 3-0 lead and never looked back.

Bay Path outshot Anna Maria 31 to 4 for the match. Sophomore keeper Nicole Ogden (Springfield, Mass.) recorded the shut-out with two saves.

AMCATS' Tabitha Ruggeri (Palmer, Mass.) and Cristina Turley (Waterford, Conn.) had the two Anna Maria shots on net.

In the second half, junior midfielder Keelin Dougherty (Northfield, N.H.) found the back of the net in the 65th minute adding an insurnace goal to the tally finishing up the scoring for the day.

The Wildcats advance to 1-4-1 on the season while the AMCATS move to 1-5 in 2012. Bay Path will be back in action hosting Newbury on Saturday, September 22nd at 1:00 p.m. opening up NECC play.
