Watson, Walsh and Wood Named All NECC Women's Tennis

ATTLEBORO, Mass.- New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Commissioner, Del Malloy, announced the 2012 NECC Women’s Tennis All-Conference Team today.  On Saturday, October 20th Regis College won the first tournament championship defeating Bay Path College 5-4, with the conclusion of the season the All-Conference Team was announced with eleven student-athletes earning honors in both singles and doubles action. Bay Path’s junior Symone Watson (Hamden, Conn.) was named first team in singles, while the freshman duo Brittany Walsh (North Smithfield, R.I.) and Taylor Wood (Castleton, N.Y.) garnered second team honors in singles play as well.

Regis' Abigail Wehr (Suwanee, Ga.) and Becker's Nicole Connolly (Scarborough, Maine) shared NECC Women's Tennis Player of the Year honors. Both women play the number one singles and doubles spot for their respective teams.

Wehr, a first year, went 8-2 at the No. 1 singles position and teamed with Jazz Hicks (Plymouth, Mass.) to go a perfect 9-0 at No. 1 doubles in NECC play in 2012. Connolly, who was the NECC Rookie of the Year a season ago, went 9-1 in top singles action and 8-2 in top doubles action during her sophomore campaign. Wehr and Connolly split their two head-to-head singles matches this season.

Becker first-year Kathleen Razzaboni (Hooksett, N.H.) earned conference Rookie of the Year honors. Razzaboni went 8-1 in number two singles action and 8-2 in number one doubles this year during conference play.

Becker's David Bostick was named NECC Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season after leading his squad to an 8-2 regular season record. Lesley received the Team Sportsmanship Award.

Watson concluded 2012 with a 11-7 record at the No.1 spot and went 8-10 overall in No.1 doubles action. In NECC play she was 6-4 in singles and 4-6 in doubles action. Watson is now a two-time first team member. She currently has a three year record of  27-15 (.642 winning percentage) in singles play. Her collegiate doubles record is 27-16 (.627 winning percentage). 

Walsh finished her freshman campaign at a near perfect 17-1 in singles and teaming with Wood for 14-1 No.3 doubles record. In conference play Walsh was 9-1. Wood finished her first year also at 17-1 but went undefeated in conference play at the No.5 spot 10-0.  Both went 8-1 in doubles action in conference.

NECC all-conference selections are determined by a vote of the conference coaches.
